Meet Simon

Hi. My name is Simon.
And I like to do drawrings.

(Any other SNL fans out there? Mike Myers? anyone? Ok, if you were an SNL Simon fan... anyone remember the Danny Devito skit? My absolute favorite. Hands down.)

But I am not that kind of Simon.
I am the Simon Says type of Simon.

And before you begin reading all that Simon says, you might want to know a little bit about me.

Just to get started on the right foot, i want to be completely honest with you.

My name is not really Simon.
It's Ashley.

But you can call me Simon.

Unless, of course, you know me in real life.
If that is the case, you can call me whatever you want.
As long as it is nice.

I grew up in small town, South Carolina.
Kershaw, to be exact.

And no, that is not in Kershaw County.
That is Kershaw in Lancaster County.

Don't ask me why.
I don't know.

I spent my childhood in the country doing the sort of things country girls do.

Rolling around in the grass with my dog, Flash.
Sitting on the banks of the pond, watching my Maw fish.
Chasing my boy cousins and making them cry.
Walking through the woods with my grandfather.
Climbing fences.
Catching fireflies.
Getting dirty.

I also played Zelda on the Nintendo & ate lots of Little Debbie cakes, but that does not sound like an idealized version of the country girl, does it?

Fast forward.

Country girl grew up.
Got married.
Moved to the city.
Became a mama to 3 city kids.

And i love it.

I love my family.
I love being a mom.
I love where I live.

(I could combine all of those simple sentences into a compound, couldn't I.)

Just to reiterate...
I love my family & being a mom where I live.

Meet the family...

Me (Simon) & my King of the Hill.
And the kids - Hop + Skip + Jump.

note to self: find a picture that shows hop + skip + jump all smiling.

another note to self: good luck with that.

Grumpy children aside...

This country girl is enjoying the city & all it has to offer.
If there is something going on for the kids, I am on it.

But there was a slight problem.

In my effort to enjoy all that this city had to offer, I had to dig & dig & dig for stuff.
The websites bookmarked on my computer were numerous.

And trying to find something to do on a whim? Forget it. Not happening.

I spoke with other moms & they had the same complaints.

So I had a Kevin Costner epiphany...
build it and they will come.

Okay, so I am not truly building anything.

But compile information and mamas will know where to take their kids just did not have the same ring to it.

So that is what I am doing.
Compiling a place for mamas to come.

To figure out who to see, what to do, when it's happening, where to go, and how to get there.

This city is our playground.
Fun is just a hop, skip & a jump away.

Enjoy it!!
